Free Download: Donny Hathaway – A Song For You Remix prod by Mr Kuyateh

Valentines Day is 3 Days Away

Donny was on my mind after I did the Jay Z flip (*see below*)…

I was thinking this would be a dope dance track, lol, my usual thought.  But what direction and how it would go was completely up to fate.  At first I arranged the whole track and then chopped it up into pieces to rock with.

There were a few different versions that were ok, but the final was it yet it was missing something.  It did’t tell the story of Love and it’s struggles, it was simply a dope lil dance flip.

So as luck would prevail, I played the whole track which was already on a layer but not vocally stretched to match the beat.  “That’s official!”, I thought.  “lemme just stretch the track out manually (aka mad time consuming smh) and see what I have or if it end’s up being too much work for the moment.

I tried my best to just zone out and enjoy the slow flow.  Thinking about it is counter productive and make any production task mad tedious and annoying.

Fast Forward a few hours and a few days of mixing it up properly for public listening and you have the track above.

Soundcloud be tripping and shxt but I think they enabled the ability to download my tracks now.  Try it out and see if ya can, if not lemme know… bless up!  – Mr Kuyateh | Brooklyn

New Edition – Can You Stand The Rain (Mr Kuyateh 90’s Brooklyn Remix)

I’m an 80’s baby at heart and 90’s Slow Jams representative.  Haven’t had much time to create and had to vent through music recently.

With all the talk about the New Edition BET Movie, I figured it was time to flip an oldschool classic.  I had this on plenty slow jam tapes back in the day.  If ya know what I mean, just smile and continue reading.

This flip was subtle and maintained it general smooth flow, but with a driven Hip Hop vibe.  I have a version with lyrics spitting over em, but for now enjoy this.

After a session with my man SnowBklyn and the Groove Room , I came home to rock on the my personal decks.  I had a few technical difficulties that were light but it’s my fault.  I should have gotten to Snow’s spot earlier to test his deck and see what’s up.

With that, I had to come home and rock with what I’m comfortable with.  I didnt have the CDJ’s connected yet but that will come in due time.  For now I’m rocking on the Pioneer DDJ-SX, my second favorite choice of rocking… I love CDJ’s.

Enjoy the first set as I test sound out and the whole FB Live process…

Press play, let that shxt rock and enjoy the session… It’s not much to watch for an hour, it’s more listening and vibing.  So do that!  – Mr. Kuyateh

P. S. for the heads I had to rock a classic Lo-Piece… u already Lo!!

iamnobodi – Found You (Gibril Remix)

iamnobodi is a smooth brother down with the Soulection crew.  Heard this track and was pretty much like yo, I gotta extend that intro… it’s the perfect smooth club banger.

So maybe a couple of months ago I started a rough draft version and posted it on the gram:

Had all intentions of finishing it, but didn’t know how deep i would go with it.

I really just wanted that voice solo’d out with an easy rhythm riding that shxt real smooth.  The alternate version that I didn’t record but improv’d for hours (may do live or something) is playing the keys with it.

The results was sounding kinda dope but a lil too monotonous as a stand alone track.  I’m ok on the keys but not comfortable enough to hold attention like i’d like, so give it in doses. I understand my limits and ride a fine line.

The results is a smooth and sexy riddim that will keep the ladies swaying till the early morning…

Support iamnobodi and check out Soulection Radio….

Here’s a sample of their chill ass show… think 90’s throwback, r&b soul with an electronic boost of energy.  Ginuwine in 2016 meets experimental Cali dance and ambient vibes….

Yea that’s them… trust dopeness and the sound of tomorrow!

And that’s The Brooklyn Word…..  – Gibril

Day 5: Prince – Purple Rain Remix by Gibril

So i’ve been sick for the last week or so and it’s stalled the remix process.  I have up to day 10 almost completed, but the tweaking tracks is not a light job and I’m finding myself spending more time on each of these than anticipated.  Not to mention the uploading and creation of artwork is a light strain on my brain.

I will say that this has been a dope creative process and i’m exhibiting new techniques that you may not notice but is there.  The ability to chop up a track or make any vocal track almost a cappella is what I’m proud of the most.

Through all this, it’s as if Prince is teaching me less than a fraction of what he knows.  Each remix is more challenging to listen to as memories arise that make me say “Damn, why the fuxk did he have to pass and what the fuxk really happened because it’s maaaad suspect” (white people translator… Prince’s death is a tragic loss and the circumstances behind it or quite sketchy).

I doubt another one will go up tonight, but hope you enjoy and share if you do.  Bless up! – Gibril

Day 2: PRINCE “The Beautiful Ones” (Brooklyn Remix | GIBRIL) + DAY 3: “The Beautiful Ones” (Mandinka Remix | GIBRIL)

Day 2 + Day 3 was an interesting journey.  I’m recalling the cherished memories of tracks as they play.  Family gatherings, cook outs, parties and my heart is not sad but empowered by Prince’s incredible spirit.

As a creator of sound, he was a genius at manipulating it and a prodigy of it’s mechanics.  I was actually sick yesterday, pretty bad too.  It wasn’t till late at night where there was time to tweak it, but out of all that, these 2 works emerge.

The Brooklyn Remix is an Afro Drum induced classic thats pretty straight forward.

The Mandinka Remix is where the mind started to explore the world of sound and that’s where it went.  – Gibril
